PENDLETON — The Pendleton Heights High School Best Buddies Respect Walk and Challenge Run took place Sunday, Nov. 6, in Pendleton, generating about $2,000 for the student-run Best Buddies program.

Best Buddies pairs students who have intellectual and developmental disabilities with students who do not have a disability to create “real friendship,” said Dunn, a math teacher and one of two advisers for the PHHS Best Buddies program.

About 100 people took part in the Respect Walk, a 1-mile walk to raise awareness and celebrate differences, Dunn said.

About 50 people took part in the Challenge Run, a 3-mile course along trails in Falls Park, where there were physical obstacles and tasks to represent the intellectual and developmental challenges some people face.

Dunn said the event raised about $2,000 in entry fees and T-shirt sales.
