Garden club has spring plant sale

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Garden Club conducted its annual spring plant sale Friday, May 12, and Saturday, May 13, in the Community Building in Falls Park.

The club sold a variety of flowers, plants, law and garden decorations as well as baked goods.

Most of the goods for sale come from club members, and the club will donate part of the sale proceeds to the parks department, club persident Ellen Elliott said.

Member Duane Briar was helping staff the sale, which used to be a sidewalk sale in downtown Pendleton. “But it got colder or we got older, and we said let’s go inside,” Briar said, explaining the shift of venue.

Francie Seybert of Pendleton rode her bike to the sale Friday and described herself as a loyal customer; she usually buys flowers, perennials and more.

“I have even bought tomato plants,” she said, as well as a coffee tree and river birch.

Pem Tarter also was shopping for plants Friday during what she said she believes to be her seventh year coming to the sale.

“I’ve bought tons of different things here,” she said, noting that she looks for the types of plants she purchased before that have done well in her yard.

The garden club will have its next plant sale in the fall.
