Pendleton Heights softball dominates Yorktown

YORKTOWN — The late season power surge for the Arabian softball team continued Thursday, May 18, at Yorktown.

Sophomore Mickala Winans hit her first career home run, a two-run shot that capped a six-run first inning as Pendleton Heights ended its regular season with a 12-2 win against the Tigers in a game shortened to six innings by run rule.

Pendleton Heights moved to 19-8 and will play New Castle at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, at the Greenfield-Central sectional; Yorktown fell to 16-7.

The Arabians have won seven of their last eight, scoring in double digits in four of the wins.

The Winans blast was the first of three home runs hit by the Arabians. Lauren Landes hit a solo home run in the second inning, and Kelsey Sturgeon hammered a two-run shot in the fourth.

Savannah Hawhee collected three hits and scored twice, Ashley King had two hits and three RBI, and Amanda White matched Winans with two RBI.

That offensive output was plenty of support for Audrey Ricker, who pitched a complete game in her final tune-up for the postseason. The senior allowed eight hits and a walk while allowing just two runs.

For the second straight game, the Arabians played error free ball in the field.
