GREENFIELD — Four Arabians were named to the Hoosier Heritage All-Conference baseball team for 2017, and head coach Travis Keesling was named Coach of the Year, in a meeting of coaches conducted recently.

Keesling guided his team through a season that included injuries and suspensions that resulted in multiple missed games for starting players. Despite that hardship, the Arabians completed the season at 19-6 and won the conference title with an 11-3 mark.

One key to the team’s success was the dynamic one-two punch on the mound provided by the two unanimous selections to the team from Pendleton Heights in senior pitchers Chayce McDermott and Eston Stull.

McDermott, often facing conference rivals’ No. 1 pitchers, finished the year at 5-3 with a 2.29 ERA. In 49 innings, he surrendered just 24 hits and struck out 95 hitters. Opponents batted just .136 on the year against the future Ball State Cardinal.

Stull, headed to IU-Kokomo next season, was every bit as dominant. He rolled to an 8-0 record and a miniscule 1.16 ERA. In 42.1 innings, he struck out 53 batters while allowing just 19 hits. Stull also hit .288 on the season as an outfielder.

The third Arabian named to the team is outfielder Corbin Cox. The senior led the team with a .379 average, four home runs and 17 RBI. Cox also pitched well with a 3-2 record and a 0.55 ERA, including a win in the Madison County championship game.

Second baseman Philip Lawson made the team after hitting an even .300 and leading the team with seven doubles and 24 hits. One of the better defensive players around, Lawson committed just one error in 68 total defensive chances.
