Two jewelry classes at Gallery 119

PENDLETON — The Pendleton Artists Society at Gallery 119 will offer two jewelry classes using different media offered during October.
From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, Diane Burrell will teach a fanned enameling jewelry class. Cost for the class is $45, which includes supplies. If using gold, it costs $10 extra.
From 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, participants can learn to make a forged link bracelet with Tracy Davidson. People can learn to make jump rings, forging and soldering links for their bracelet, and create toggle clasps to make it truly an individual creation. The class costs $45 and includes all materials, including the sterling silver and tools needed to make your own bracelet.
The class is for ages 15 years and up.
Both classes will take place at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton. People can register at Gallery 119 or by phoning 765-778-0986. Business hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Galllery 119’s current Fall Show and featured artist Carolyn Rushton’s artistic gourds are on display.

Speaker to discuss 1812 veterans

ANDERSON — Madison County Historical Society Inc. will feature Melody Hull with a presentation “1812 Veterans Buried in Madison County,” during its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23.

There are 25 war of 1812 veterans buried in the county, and Hull will tell stories from those veterans — about their lives, how they contributed to local development or what happened to their families or cemeteries after they were gone.

The meeting is planned at the Bowman Room of the Madison County History Center, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson and is open to the public.

Red Cross to conduct area blood drives
PENDLETON — The American Red Cross plans a blood donation opportunity for 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Lapel High School, 1850 S. County Road 900W.
People who want to donate another time can download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App at redcrossblood.org or call 800-733-2767 to make an appointment or for more information.
All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood.
High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Another opportunity to donate blood is set for 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Lowe’s Warehouse, 3335 S. Scatterfield Road, Anderson.

Learn to paint like Bob Ross
PENDLETON — Bob Ross-certified instructor Gini Deaton will offer a Wet-On-Wet Oil Painting Class for those wishing to learn to paint using the technique made famous by Ross, who starred in an instructional TV program on painting.
The class is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 at 119 W. State St., Pendleton.
Painting more than 30 years, Deaton has an easy instructional style of teaching. People can learn to oil paint with a step-by-step demo and personal one-on-one instructional classes. All levels of painters are welcome.
All paints, brushes, easels, etc., will be supplied.
Participants are asked to provide a 16-by-20-inch canvas and paper towel.
A canvas can be provided for $6. People should specify if they need one at the time of registration.
Cost for the class is $55.

Group More Than Conquerors plans 5K
PENDLETON — More Than Conquerors will play host to a 5K run/walk called Light up the Night on Friday, Oct. 27, at Falls Park.
Organizers plan a night of prayer, music, dancing, hot chocolate and more.
Activities start at 6 p.m., with the run/walk kicking off at 7:30 p.m.
There is no charge to participate.

Lions club parade coming up
PENDLETON — Pendleton Lions Club will conduct its annual Halloween parade on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Participants are asked to meet in the parking lot behind the Pendleton Post Office, 137 W. State St., at 9:30 a.m. The parade will travel through town beginning at 10 a.m. to the Falls Park shelter house, where the judging will begin.
Judging will take place in six age groups, which range from preschool up. Each group will be judged in four categories: scariest, prettiest/cutest, funniest and most original.
There will be bags of goodies for people in costume.
Quilt guild
to go ‘crazy’
PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, Nov. 1, in the Community Room at Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.
Kaye Judt will share “The Craze for the Quilt, a history of Crazy Quilting.”
The guild meets the first Wednesday of every month except September.
Social time begins at 5:30 p.m., the meeting at 6 p.m. Guests are welcome. People can bring items for show and tell.

Pendleton alumni cruise coming up
PENDLETON — A Pendleton Heights Alumni Cruise departing from Tampa, Florida, is planned for Jan. 20 to 25.
The five-day Carnival Paradise cruise will travel to the western Caribbean.
