Pendleton Heights wrestlers headed to female state meet

BUNKER HILL — Female high school wrestlers from across the state gathered for competition at two sites for the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling North and South Regional meets Friday, Jan. 5.

The event was sponsored by the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association (IHSWCA).

Seven Arabian wrestlers took part in the north regional at Maconaquah High School in Bunker Hill; three competed well enough to qualify for state finals at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Lawrence North High School.

The wrestlers from the north regional will join their counterparts from south regional, which took place at Edgewood High School in Ellettsville.

Senior Devyn Byars won the 113 championship and qualified for her second state championships appearance. She also finished fourth last year.

Senior Shayla Meinders finished second at 113 and qualified for her first state finals appearance.

Byars had three falls in the tournament before winning the finals match 6-3 against Meinders.

Senior Arabian Kaylee Clendenen finished second in the 152 weight division and qualified for her second state finals appearance. She finished fourth last year.

Other results include: Gracie Addison, eighth at 106; Kate Wrin, eighth at 126; Deisdy Rodriguez, seventh at 126; Sarah Dix, sixth at 126.
