Arabians win wrestling sectional

ELWOOD — It was a dominating performance by the Pendleton Heights High School wrestling team Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Elwood Sectional.

The Arabians controlled the field, winning the team crown as well as three individual sectional titles.

Twelve of 14 wrestlers are heading to regional competition at Pendleton Heights on Saturday, Feb. 3.

The Arabians flexed their muscles in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, where 10 Arabians won by pin.

Pendleton Heights finished first with 231.5 points, followed by Anderson (179.5), Frankton (169.0), Noblesville (145.5), Elwood (138.0), Lapel (76), Hamilton Heights (72), Guerin Catholic (70), Tipton (65.5) and Alexandria (64.0).

Many Arabians also finished in the top five: Austin Cummings (106 pounds), fifth; Jared Brown (120), sectional champion; Jace Longere (126), third; Elijah Bauer (132), sectional champion; Derek Sikorski (138), second; Caleb Gibson (145), second; Jarod Miller (152), second; Jacob Brown (160), third; Clayton Todd (170), third; Garrett Griffith (182), third; Tremor Bynum (195), sectional champion; Cade Campbell (220), fourth; and Jared Baldwin (285), second.

Brown never trailed during any match. He won by a 10-1 major decision against Anderson’s K.J. Williams and downed Frankton’s Seth Lawson 3-0 in the final match.

Bauer won by technical fall against K.D. Wiliams of Anderson. He also defeated No. 1 seed Justin Sparks of Noblesville 6-5.

Bynum, ranked No. 9 in the state, defeated opponents from Alexandria and Hamilton Heights. In the finals, Bynum defeated No. 14 state-ranked David Delph from Frankton 10-0.
