Show choirs to compete at state

Pep rally scheduled today

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School’s show choirs are hosting a pep rally at 6:30 p.m. today in the high school auditorium to cheer on its state-bound groups.

Emerald Suite and Pendletones will compete at the Indiana State School Music Association’s small school division finals Saturday, March 17, at Franklin Central High School.

Emerald Suite, the school’s women’s division show choir, will perform at 9 a.m.

The group, comprised of 38 singers, is one of 10 women’s small-division groups that made it to state.

This is Emerald Suite’s second year competing. It achieved two first-place, two second-place and two third-place finishes, and won best vocals, best band, best show design and best soloist at one of the competitions.

Pendletones, Pendleton Heights’ top mixed division show choir, is scheduled to perform at state at 7:30 p.m.

The group, comprised of 42 singers, is one of nine small-division mixed groups to make it on to State.

This season, Pendletones earned three first-place awards, two second-place awards and two third-place awards this season. It also won best vocals, best visuals, best show design, best costumes and best band at one of the competitions, and has won best soloist twice.

Pendleton Heights has six choir groups, three of which are show choirs that compete in state show choir competitions.

New Edition is Pendleton Heights’ junior varsity choir. This was its first year to compete, and it participated in three events.

The show choir season runs from January to March, but rehearsals begin in August before school starts.
