PENDLETON — Outfitters Inc., a Pendleton-based non-profit organization, has a new executive director.

Niki Brown, a Pendleton native and 1990 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School, recently took over leading the organization.

Outfitters provides clothing without charge to students on the free or reduced lunch program in the South Madison Community School Corp. or live at Alternatives Inc. a domestic violence shelter in Anderson.

Former executive director Tami Powell left the organization to pursue work in the banking industry.

Brown owns and operates Little Sprouts Preschool and Daycare in South Madison County.

Brown managed Outfitters’ annual Block Party in 2017.

“I always knew about Outfitters and had an affinity for the organization,” Brown wrote in a press release. “But when I worked on the block party last year, it really gave me a passion for the impact Outfitters has. When the position became available, I didn’t hesitate to pursue it. I really feel like this is a calling for me. This is where I am supposed to be and what I am supposed to be doing.”

Brown and her husband, Michael, have five children, four of whom have graduated from Pendleton Heights.

“Niki brings tremendous enthusiasm and a wealth of ideas,” Tom Bannon, president of the Outfitters board of directors, wrote in the release. “The board is confident she will continue the success Outfitters has had for more than a decade.”

People who want to learn more about Outfitters are invited to attend a gathering at 6 p.m. Monday, July 9, at Fall Creek Christian Church, 1102 W. County Road 700 South.

The talk will take place in the church Fellowship Hall; topics will include mission, outreach goals, sponsorship opportunities, volunteer opportunities and upcoming events.

Outfitters was founded in 2007.

Outfitters’ clothing store is located at 880 S. Pendleton Avenue, Pendleton, Indiana.

Outfitters 2018 Block Party is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the end of the Pendleton Fall Festival.

“We are really excited to be bringing these two great Pendleton events together this year,” Executive Director Niki Brown said. “There will be a lot of energy in Pendleton, and we look forward to being the finale of what is sure to be another great fall festival.”

This year’s Block Party will feature food, a beer garden and a concert by The Flying Toasters. The night will culminate with a fireworks show.
