Pendleton Swim Club members qualify for state

PENDLETON — Several members of the Pendleton Swim Club advanced to the Indiana Swimming State Championships.

The five PSC members will compete or did compete against other top swimmers from around the state, all vying for a state title.

The PSC members making it to the championships were McKenna Jule and Madison Brand, who swam at the Senior Long Course State Championships at Indiana University’s Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center on July 19-22.

Jule placed 85th in the 100-meter freestyle at 1:02.49, 71st in the 100-meter backstroke at 1:11.06, 68th in the 200-meter freestyle at 2:18.14, and 60th in the 100-meter butterfly.

Brand placed 52nd in the 200-meter backstroke at 2:31.45, 82nd in the 400-meter freestyle at 05:01.30, and 95th in the 200-meter freestyle at 2:22.3.

With summer swim season ending, Jule will begin her swimming career at Purdue University, and Brand will return for her second year on Indiana State University’s team.

Other top PSC members — Lily Brooks, Mallory Gentry and Grace McKinney — qualified for the Age Group Long Course State Championships, set for Friday, July 27, through Sunday, July 29, at the natatorium at IUPUI.

Brooks will swim backstroke, Gentry will swim freestyle and backstroke, and McKinney will swim breaststroke. Brooks and McKinney will swim for Pendleton Heights High School as freshmen next year, and Gentry will swim for Pendleton Heights Middle School.
