Quilt guild show coming up

MT. COMFORT — The 2018 Common Threads Quilt Show is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 10, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11, at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church, 3179 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield.

Daily admission costs $7.

The show will feature more than 100 quilts on display, a vendor mall, the Quilty Friends Café and the Common Threads Gift Shop, which will have handmade items.

Ticket sales have begun for the donation quilt; proceeds will be given to Hancock Health Foundation’s “Women Helping Women” program.

Tickets cost $1 each or $5 for six.

Common Threads Quilt Guild meets at 9:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of the month at the church. Guests are welcome.

Flower show planned for Falls Park

PENDLETON — Pendleton Garden Club is planning a flower show on Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Community Building in Falls Park, 299 Falls Park Drive, Pendleton.

This year’s theme is “At the Fair,” and the public is invited to enter horticulture items or designs.

The show will be open to the public from noon to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge.

Organizers seek Heritage Fair vendors

PENDLETON — Pendleton Fall Creek Heritage Fair takes place Sept. 7-8 at Falls Park.

The Heritage Fair, in its 44th year, is arranged by the Century and a Half Club. The fair serves as a major fundraiser for the club, which typically clears about $6,500 from vendor fees for community causes, including high school scholarships and donations to several organizations, including police and fire departments, Pendleton Community Public Library, local parks and more.

Festivities run from 9 a.m. to dusk Sept. 7, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 8, in Falls Park.

Vendors sell a wide range of merchandise, from individually made items, such as turned wood items, jewelry and artwork, to food items, such as beef jerky.

Traditional food options include Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority chicken and noodles, Pendleton Lions Club corn and Kiwanis K Burgers.

Quilts in the Park marks 37 years

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild’s “Quilts in the Park” event is planned for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 6-8 and 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at Pendleton Historical Museum in Falls Park.

Quilts to be entered in the show must be delivered to the museum between 1 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4. No entry fee is charged. Quilts must have an attached fabric sleeve for hanging and must not have been previously displayed in the show.

Each participant may enter up to two quilts in each category: Bed, all techniques, hand-quilted; bed, pieced, machine-quilted; bed, appliqué, machine-quilted; wall, all techniques, machine- or hand-quilted; art, all techniques, machine- or hand-quilted; miscellan-eous quilted items; and theme “Let’s Go Crazy” items, any technique and size.

Recognition will be given on the last day of the show to the quilt receiving the most Viewer’s Choice votes.

Quilts must be claimed between 5 and 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9.

Swim club tryouts scheduled

PENDLETON — Pendleton Swim Club is accepting new members for the fall/winter season, with tryouts scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 and 21 at the Pendleton Heights High School pool.

Children should be prepared to get into the water and bring their birth certificate for USA Swimming registration.
