YORKTOWN — Pendleton Heights golfers had ideal weather conditions for their match at the Players Club in Yorktown on Wednesday, Aug. 22. That’s where they came away with a hard-fought 200-203 win against the Yorktown Tigers.

The course plays long, and there is a lot of walking in between holes, but the Arabians were up for the task.

“I think the extra walking shows in our scores,” coach Hilary Slick said. “The course was in excellent condition; greens were really fast compared to what we are used to.”

Medalist for the Arabians was junior Danielle Tinsley, who shoot a solid 42.

After the match, Tinsley said the putting was tough and hard to get used to.

Freshman Grace Wiggins posted a 46 and said she also had a little trouble with the putter.

Kaylee McKenney, a freshman, shot a 51. McKenney has been trying out some new clubs, which may have added a few strokes, Slick said.

Ryann Norris, a sophomore, shot a 61 and had a bit of trouble. She hit the ball out of bounds a couple of times, which hurt her score.

Aubrey Fisher, a sophomore, made her debut on the links, shooting a 63.

“I believe this is a really good round for a player with a softball background,” Slick said. “The swings are really different, and it is hard to make the transition.”

Freshman Kaitlynn Shamblin had her second match of the season and posted a 65, while Courtney Dawson, a senior, was out sick.

On Tuesday, Aug. 21, the weather started out nice for the Arabians in their match with the Daleville High School Broncos and then deteriorated.

The teams had to stand under umbrellas for about 20 minutes until the weather cleared.

Pendleton Heights golfers finished the match in the sunshine, however, with a 181-199 win.

Tinsley was medalist with a 41.

Wiggins finished with 45, McKenney 46, and Norris 49. Shamblin, a freshman, shot 59 — a personal best.

Pendleton Heights was scheduled to play Fall Creek against Delta today, Thursday, Aug. 30.

The Lapel High School golfers took part in a three-way golf outing Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Edgewood Golf Club, and despite the soggy conditions came out on top against Shenandoah and Elwood high schools.

Lapel shot a team total 194. Shenandoah shot 230 and was second, while Elwood shot a team total 259 and came in third.

Kristen Hobbs was the Bulldog medalist with a 36.
