Boys cross country teams qualify for semistate

MUNCIE — Pendleton Heights and Lapel high school boys cross country teams are headed to semistate after finishing third and fourth, respectively, at the Delta regional Saturday, Oct. 13, at Muncie Sportsplex.

This is the first time the Bulldogs qualified for semistate competition, led by overall meet winner Luke Combs.

The top five qualifying teams and the top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams at each regional advance to semistate.

Fishers High School came in first with 24 points, followed by Hamilton Southeastern in second place with 57. Pendleton Heights earned 91 points, and Lapel earned 149 points, followed by Frankton with 173.

Both Pendleton Heights and Lapel will compete in the New Haven semistate at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in The Plex at Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Semistate will include runners from the Delta, Elkhart Central, Marion and West Noble regional meets.

Combs, a junior, topped the event with a time of 15:51.

Junior Carson Huber came in 34th (17:57), with fellow juniors Killian O’Connor (18:16) and Jesse McCurdy (18:18) in 44th and 45th.

Senior Milan Jones was the top Arabian runner, coming in seventh with a time of 16:26.

Other top Pendleton Heights runners include senior Caleb Harrington, who finished 20th (17:09); junior Sean Roan, who finished 21st (17:09.7); and senior Jayden Wenning, who finished 28th (17:28).
