Pendleton cheer squads shine during scholastic cheerleading championships

INDIANAPOLIS — Cheer squads from Pendleton Heights middle and high schools took part in recent Scholastic Cheerleading Championships for junior high, freshman and junior varsity teams.

The event was Oct. 20 at Decatur Central High School, where two Arabians teams took home some hardware.

The Arabians junior varsity teams earned first- and third-place awards. The all-girls stunt team composed of Ileah Clark, Hattie Sebastian, Katie Ferguson, Taylor Hubble, and Kennady Garris placed first.

The Arabians junior varsity team composed of Kinley Moore, Alexa Puckey, Avery Cook, Cambri Utley, Sarah Fendel, Ashley Gibson, Cori Stonecipher, Allie Reeves, Deanna West, Gage Downey, Darbie Cullipher, Grayson Sargent and Ashley Bell finished third.

Cheer coach Brenda Jamerson said she was proud of both of the Arabians squads being able to perform under pressure to earn recognition.

The Indiana Association of School Principals sponsors the Indiana Cheer Championship.

The competition featured 56 junior high and high school freshman and junior varsity cheerleading teams from Indiana, as well as eight partner stunt group teams competing in the finals of their division.

The teams competed in the one-day event, which concluded with a first-place winner named in each of four divisions, as well as Partner Stunt Group coed and all-girl divisions.
