Legion plans several activities

PENDLETON — American Legion Post 117, 611 W. State St., Pendleton, has the following public activities planned this month:

• 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 24 — all-you-can-eat wings (dine-in or carry-out)

• Jan. 25 — Food special: $1 tacos/$1.50 supreme

• 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 — pool tournament

• 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 31 — all-you-can-eat wings (dine-in or carry-out)

• 7:30 p.m. Jan. 25 — treasure hunt drawing

• Jan. 26 — Dinner special: Sirloin steak, baked potato, salad

Gallery offers art classes, show

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society plans art classes regularly at Gallery 119 in Pendleton:

• Portrait Painting 101 — noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays from Jan. 26 to March 2. Award-winning portrait painter David Bradshaw will teaching the step-by-step process and basic techniques of portrait painting in oil.

The six-week course costs $120 and is limited to 10 participants. A supply list is online at pendletonartistssociety.org.

• Etch metal jewelry with Tracy Davidson — 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27. Participants will have a chance to design and create an etched bracelet or earrings and pendant set. Copper, brass and silver will be provided. Class cost is $40.

• Annual Art Class Show — Features art by students from various art classes offered at Gallery 119 in 2018. The show runs through January during regular gallery hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The gallery is located at 119 W. State St.

Chili dinner planned at high school

LAPEL — The Lapel High School “Students to Europe 2019” group is sponsoring a chili dinner set for 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in the school’s commons area.

Adult ticket price is $7, and the student ticket price is $3.

Prices includes chili with all the fixings, a hotdog and a drink. Desserts also will be available to purchase for $1.50.

The meal will take place before the Oak Hill boys basketball game.

People can purchase tickets in advance from any of the participating juniors at Lapel High School. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Profits from the dinner will help students travel to Europe this fall.

If the game is postponed, the meal will take place on the day the game is rescheduled.

Local blood drive planned for Jan. 28

PENDLETON — An American Red Cross blood donations opportunity is set for 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at First United Methodist Church, 225 W. State St., Pendleton.

People can make an appointment to donate blood or platelets by downloading the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 800-733-2767.

Chamber event to take place in Lapel

LAPEL — Madison County Chamber’s Lapel Power Up, an informal networking event focusing on connecting businesses in Southern Madison County, is scheduled for 8 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at First Merchant’s Bank, 1011 N. Main St., Lapel.

Cheer clinic set for Jan. 31

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights cheerleaders will play host to a cheer clinic for ages preschool to sixth grade Jan. 31 in the Pendleton Heights auxiliary gym prior to the Arabians’ basketball game with Yorktown.

Registration begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by clinic at 5 p.m., pizza at 6:30 p.m. and a halftime performance with the Pendleton Heights cheer team.

Wine tasting event rescheduled

PENDLETON — A wine tasting event originally planned for last weekend has been rescheduled for 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Gallery 119 in Pendleton.

The event is sponsored by the Pendleton Artists Society at the gallery, 119 W. State St.

One Hope Winery and Kathi Meyer will play host to the event.

Visitors will be able to sample wines and learn how to pair them with foods. RSVP’s would be appreciated by phoning the gallery 119 at 765-778-0986 or 765-620-3823.

The cost will be $5.

This is a fundraiser to help with the building fund for the gallery.

Journaling workshop coming up

PENDLETON — “Journaling for Spiritual Growth” will be offered from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sundays from Feb. 3 to 24 at Fall Creek Meeting of Friends, 1764 W. State Road 38, Pendleton.

Workshop leader Marti Matthews is the author of “Pain: The Challenge and the Gift,” articles and a blog.

Sessions will include reflections on what people have learned from life experiences, what they feel called forward to, writing on spiritual topics and voluntary sharing.

The cost to participate in all sessions is $30.

Quilt guild to share memories

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Pendleton Community Public LIbrary to kick off the new year.

The February program will be “Member Memories.”

People are invited to bring a quilt or quilts to show — first, best or ugliest. They can bring work to show in one, two or all three categories.

The guild meets in the Community Room of the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

Social time is at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting begins at 6 p.m.

Junior baseball registration set

PENDLETON — Registration for Pendleton Junior Baseball, Softball and Champions leagues is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 10 and 17 at the Falls Park Community Building.

Group continues collecting photos

PENDLETON — The Town of Pendleton Bicentennial Committee is accepting photos and information relating to the town’s past and present for a coffee table book called “A Celebration of Pendleton: 1820-2020 — Then and Now.”

The committee wants pictures and information related to agriculture, buildings, businesses, churches, local events, schools, transportation, and legends and lore.

The book also will have a patron section, which will be available for a charge to local businesses, churches, families and organizations. Those who purchase a page or half-page will be able to submit photos along with a written history.
