Pendleton Heights Top 10 percent Week 4

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School recognizes the top 10 percent of its graduating class each year. There are 35 students in that group for the Class of 2019. The countdown resumes this week with Nos. 6 to 12.

Sylvia Phillips is currently ranked No. 12 with a grade-point average of 12.4783. She is the daughter of Russ and Kirstin Phillips. Phillips has been a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society, student council, National Spanish Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is class vice president, serves on the steering committee and has participated in volleyball and Unified Track and Field. She is also involved at Pendleton Christian Church and loves serving others. She attended Youth Leadership Academy, where she was encouraged to be a servant/leader, no matter the age. Phillips plans to attend Butler University, Hanover College or Davidson College and major in psychology and minor in neuroscience. She wants to become a counseling psychologist.

Luke Albers is currently ranked No. 11 with a GPA of 12.5146. He is the son of Christopher and Marcia Albers. Albers has been a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. He has played tennis (one year) and basketball (four years). He enjoys spending time with family and friends and playing basketball. Albers plans to attend Indiana University in Bloomington at Hutton Honors College to major in human biology. He plans to be a physician assistant.

Quinlan Huntzinger is currently ranked No. 10 with a GPA of 12.6364. She is the daughter of Kris Schloffel and Jim Huntzinger. Huntzinger has been a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society, Outdoor Adventure Club, Pendleton Players — theater and German American Partnership Program (GAPP). She also participated in the Pendleton Emergency Ambulance Rookie program in Pendleton. Huntzinger will take a year to study in Germany with the CBYX program and upon her return will attend Purdue University, where she will major in biological sciences. Huntzinger would like to further her medical studies to become an OB/GYN.

Lauren McLaughlin is currently ranked No. 9 with a GPA of 12.6786. She is the daughter of Matt and Cindy McLaughlin. McLaughlin has been a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, German Club, Hoofprint and the band departmment — marching band, wind ensemble, symphonic band and pep band. She also is a member of 4-H and youth group and enjoys writing. McLaughlin plans to attend Indiana University to major in journalism and minor in Spanish. She wants to become a news reporter.

Derek Sikorski is currently ranked No. 8 with a GPA of 12.8545. He is the son of Bob and Kristie Sikorski. Sikorski has been a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society, Student Athletic Council, Math Academic Team, Science Academic Team and Youth Leadership Academy. He also wrestled. Sikorski also enjoys astronomy. He plans to attend Indiana University to study astrophysics. He would like to work at NASA.

Benjamin Jones is currently ranked No. 7 with a GPA of 12.9783. He is the son of Jason and Heather Jones. Jones has been a member of National Beta Club, National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl and Math Academic Team. Jones is undecided on a college at this time but plans to study and major in actuarial science. He wants to be an actuary.

Macy Nemeth is currently ranked No. 6 with a GPA of 13.0175. She is the daughter of Paul and Melissa Nemeth. Nemeth has been a member of National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and band — marching band, wind ensemble and pep band. Nemeth is a member of Madison Park Church youth group and a 10-year member of 4-H Mudsockers Club. She plans to attend Purdue University to study pharmacy. Nemeth would like to be a pharmacist.
