PENDLETON — A Pendleton Correctional Facility inmate died Friday after being stabbed several times in the facility’s dining hall.

According to Indiana State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that inmate Clifford S. Baggett, 28, of Ustas, Florida, was stabbed multiple times by a fellow inmate, Tommy P. Holland, 44, of Indianapolis.

The stabbing happened at about 3:30 p.m. as Baggett was walking through the dinning hall.

“Holland approached Baggett and used a hand-crafted weapon to carry out the attack, which resulted in him stabbing Baggett multiple times,” according to an ISP press release. “Immediately after the attack, prison staff rushed in as Holland dropped his weapon and surrendered.”

Holland, who is serving two life sentences for murder, was subdued without further incident, the release states.

Medical aid was immediately provided to Baggett, but he succumbed to his injuries before he could be transported to a hospital.

An autopsy is pending.

Assisting ISP Detective Andy Byers with the investigation was ISP crime scene technician Chris Martin. Also assisting ISP was the the facility’s Office of Investigations and Intelligence.

The investigation is ongoing.
