‘Safety and security’ is Newco’s top priority

Since our founding, Newco Metals has prided itself on a proven foundation of honesty, customer and employees. We want to focus on the first part of that by directly addressing concerns regarding our proposed state-of-the-art Element 13 aluminum recycling project in Ingalls in an open and transparent way.

First, please know environmental safety and security is our top priority. Already we have received a permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management that ensures our facility keeps air and water safe for all to use.

But beyond that, we pledge our emissions will be below regulatory thresholds, we will not produce any dangerous emissions or odor, and our recirculated water cooling system will not endanger groundwater.

We don’t take these steps or make these pledges because they are required; we do so because we are committed to you — our neighbors — and our community.

We are proud to be in Madison County and aim to produce an environmentally safe product while creating new high-wage, green jobs in the place we call home.

Second, Element 13 will not be a smelter. It will instead be a remelter. In essence, we will recycle aluminum that would otherwise be discarded in a nearby landfill in a process that is much less energy-intensive and much more environmentally friendly than smelting.

To learn more about how the remelting process differs from smelting or to read our response to concerns regarding residential property values, please view our full public letter on the topic by visiting https://www.facebook.com/E13AluminumCasthouse.
