PH cheer team finishes second in state

PENDLETON — Medals and trophies continue to come in for the Pendleton Heights High School cheerleaders.

Capping off the state tournament season, the Arabians finished as state runners-up Saturday in the Varsity B division at the Indiana Association of School Principals-sponsored Indiana Cheer Championship Varsity State Finals at New Castle High School.

Pendleton Heights finished second to Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger. Greenfield-Central finished in third place.

The Arabians cheer team qualified for the championships by scoring in the top 60 percent at the preliminary contest Nov. 2 at Greenfield-Central.

Other teams competing in the Varsity B Division finals included Lowell, Jasper and Mt. Vernon (Fortville).

Members of the Pendleton Heights High School cheerleading squad include Ashley Bell, Ileah Clark, Avery Cook, Darbie Cullipher, Ashley Duncan, Sarah Fendel, Katie Ferguson, Madison Grant, Aly Holtzleiter, Holli Jones, Ally McCambridge, Kinley Moore, Karli Norton, Ellie Poindexter, Jaden Pratt, Hattie Sebastian, Hannah Skinner, Nevaeh Spinks, Cambri Utley, Lindsey Weddle and Lily Zirkelbach.

Heading into the state finals, coach Brenda Jamerson said, “I am extremely proud of this group of athletes representing Pendleton Heights High School and the community at the state level. They are a dedicated and extremely focused group of young women. We’ve had a very great season so far cheering on the Arabian football team and competing locally.”

Pendleton Heights won the Hoosier Heritage Conference Competition earlier this season. The Pendleton Heights All-Girl Partner Stunt Group won its state championship on Oct. 26 at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis, finishing ahead of runner-up Carmel and third-place Jeffersonville.

Members of the stunt team include Ferguson, Norton, Sebastian, Clark and Grant.

The next competition for the cheer team will be the National Cheer Championships at Disney World in February.
