Friends gingerbread contest coming up

PENDLETON — The Third Annual Friends of the Pendleton Community Public Library Gingerbread Cottage Contest is underway.

Registration is open and lasts through Dec. 5.

Completed gingerbread cottages must be delivered between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 4 or Dec. 5.

Entries will be on display for a holiday open house on Dec. 8. Entries cannot exceed 12×12 inches, and they must have a base that’s stable for transportation.

An entry fee of $10 will include gingerbread recipe, building directions and pattern pieces.

An entry fee of $20 will include a kit that contains everything one needs to assemble and decorate a gingerbread cottage.

Prizes of $50 will be awarded for Best in Show in beginner, intermediate and advanced categories. Local celebrity judges will determine Best in Show winners; prizes will be awarded Dec. 8.

A People’s Choice award will be judged by visitors during the holiday open house.

Those who enter will receive a free Quack Daddy Donut.

Public has chance for bicentennial input

PENDLETON — The 1820 Society committee is planning a public meeting for 6:30 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Community Room at Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

The goal is to get public input into plans for the town’s bicentennial celebrations.

A book is in the works, titled “A Celebration of Pendleton, 1820 to 2020 — then and now.” Patron pages are still available for purchase. These are available to businesses, churches and other organizations.

The committee also wants to work with groups interested in taking on bicentennial-themed projects to help the town celebrate throughout the year.

The year not only marks Pendleton’s 200th anniversary, but the Heritage Fair and Pendleton Heights High School turn 50 and Falls Park turns 100.

Charity Gobble Wobble 5K set for Thanksgiving

PENDLETON — The seventh annual YMCA of Madison County Charity Gobble Wobble is scheduled for Nov. 28, beginning at the YMCA in Pendleton.

This 5K walk/run will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving.

Strollers and wagons are welcome.

Registration proceeds benefit the YMCA of Madison County Annual Support Campaign, which provides scholarships to families in need.

All pre-registrations that were made before Nov. 10 will include a dry-wick race day shirt, race bib and sponsor grab bag.

Museum Christmas event coming up

PENDLETON — Christmas with Santa at the Pendleton Historical Museum is set for 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8.

Children will have a chance to decorate cookies as well as have their photo taken with Santa.

Popcorn and cider will be served.

The museum is located in Falls Park.

Red Cross plans local blood drive

PENDLETON — An American Red Cross blood drive is scheduled for 1:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at Fall Creek Christian Church, 1102 W. County Road 700S.
