PSC offers lessons, lifeguard certification

PENDLETON — Pendleton Swim Club will begin a session of swimming lessons starting Jan. 25.

Six 30-minute lessons are available to children ages 4 and up. Cost is $75. Sessions are first come, first serve with time slots at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m., noon and 12:30 p.m.

Other days for the lessons are Feb. 8, 15, 22 and 29, and March 14.

The club pool is at Pendleton Heights High School.

Pendleton Swim Club is also offering lifeguard certification and re-certification training at Pendleton Heights to proficient swimmers ages 15 and older.

This American Red Cross Certification also will include AED, First Aid and CPR.

Full certification (training for first-time lifeguards) is good for two years and costs $275.

Participants are required to attend all four sessions: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 28 and 29, and April 4; and noon to 4 p.m. April 5.

Re-certification is also good for two years and costs $75. Participants are required to attend one session, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 4.

Space is limited. Register by emailing [email protected] to indicate which course and then mail a $50 non-refundable deposit check to Pendleton Swim Club, P.O. Box 188, Pendleton, IN 46064.

Deposits will apply to the final cost of the training.

Art classes planned at Gallery 119

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society offers art classes at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St. in Pendleton.

• Watercolor with Judy Crist — 2 to 4 p.m. Jan. 26. Crist will teach a beginner-level watercolor class, during which participants will learn the basics. The class is designed to let people try watercolors before they go to the expense of purchasing their own supplies. Participants will take home a finished piece of art of a bluejay. Class fee is $35 and includes all supplies needed.

Lapel fire department seeks sponsors

LAPEL — Lapel-Stony Creek Township Fire Department is planning its seventh annual reverse raffle fundraiser for Saturday, Jan. 25, and seeks business sponsorships.

Businesses are able to support the department through these levels:

• 5-alarm sponsor — $1,000 (four event tickets)

• 4-alarm sponsor — $500 (two event tickets)

• 3-alarm sponsor — $250 (one event ticket)

Sponsors should reply to [email protected]. Sponsors who want additional tickets should include that request with their email.

The department will presell 150 tickets at $75 each to the event.

Each ticket includes admission, dinner, drinks, prizes and giveaways. Individual tickets will go on sale after sponsorships are arranged.

The department also is accepting items to be auctioned and raffled, including gift cards and company apparel.

Business or individual names will be announced throughout the night of the event as a donor/sponsor as well as posted on the department’s social media accounts.

Spring Valley Quilt Guild to meet

PENDLETON — Spring Valley Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St.

Speaker for the evening is Dawn Cornell, who will teach people about wool applique and hand embroidery.

Cornell teaches at Always in Stitches in Noblesville.

The gathering starts at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments, and the meeting begins at 6 p.m.

All people interested in quilting are welcome to attend.
