‘Art of Friendship’ auction is on

PENDLETON — Artwork produced through “The Art of Friendship,” a collaboration between Pendleton Best Buddies Citizens and Pendleton Artists Society, is being sold by silent auction through Aug. 6.

Best Buddies Citizens is a non-profit that supports friendships between adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities, to foster an inclusive and diverse community for all. Creating opportunities for social interaction is a key strategy of the chapter.

Pendleton Artists Society is a non-profit that aims to build and support a community of artists and art enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. The goal is to enrich the cultural climate, economic vitality and quality of life.

Revenue generated from the auction will be used to support “The Art of Friendship” program.

Bids may be made at Gallery 119, 119 W. State St., Pendleton or by phone 765-778-0986 during business hours, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, or by going to our website PASgallery119.org or at the gallery’s Facebook page.

‘Friends’ to meet at Pendleton library

PENDLETON — The next Friends of the Pendleton Community Library quarterly meeting is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, July 15, in the Community Room at the Pendleton Community Public Library.

The group is organizing this year’s Duck Race, having recently completing sponsor solicitation and preparing to release duck adoption events and race plans.

The “Friends” organization is open to the public, including meetings.

Friends of the library book sale coming up

PENDLETON — The next Friends of the Pendleton Community Library book sale is scheduled for Friday, July 16, to Wednesday, July 21, at the library.

Offering include adult fiction and non-fiction, children’s books, DVDs, magazines, puzzles and more.

Prices for most items are $1 or $2

Friends of the Library members can shop a day early today, July 15, as a reward for the volunteer work they do.

The library is located at 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.

Gallery 119 offers watercolor class

PENDLETON — Pendleton Artists Society’s Gallery 119 offers art classes on a regular basis.

The next class is:

• Watercolor with Judy Crist — 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 17. Participants will paint a sailboat in her beginner watercolor class. Cost is $45 per person with supplies provided.

Registration for classes can be completed at Gallery 119 or by phone at 765-778-0986 during regular business hours, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Fair offers variety of entertainment

ALEXANDRIA — Madison County 4-H Fair gears up this weekend at Madison County 4-H Fairgrounds, 501 S. Park Ave., Alexandria.

The majority of this year’s fair activities take place from July 18 to 24, with various 4-H shows and events, food, live music and amusement rides.

A swine show on Saturday, July 17, and a horse and pony show on Sunday, July 25 are also open to the public.

Business offers chance to shred

PENDLETON — SecurEstate, 100 S. Main St., Pendleton, plans its 10th annual Shred Day for 9 to 11 a.m. July 17.

The event is open to the public and free of charge.

There is no limit to the amount of paper one can bring. All paper is shredded on site while people watch.

This is a drive-thru drop-off service; people are asked to enter the parking lot off Main Street.

Psi Phi Purse Auction set in Markleville

MARKLEVILLE — Psi Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority in Markleville plans a purse auction at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the Hardy Building, 1 W. Main St. Markleville.

Proceeds will help the chapter support Indy Honor Flight and local veteran organizations.

Psi Phi’s personal and entertaining auctioneer Tim Looper will auction new and gently-used purses filled with a variety of of surprises.

Purses can be previewed at 6 p.m. (no touching), with the auction starting at 6:30 p.m.

Summer concert rescheduled

PENDLETON — Summer Concerts in the Park will start Sunday, July 18, with a show by country music performer Corey Cox, after inclement weather caused a postponement of the June 26 concert.

The other shows in the series remain unchanged:

Sara Howe and The South Bend Sound — 6 p.m. Sunday, July 25

Madison County Band Directors Jazz Band and Pendleton Heights High School Marching Band — 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29

People are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs. Organizers remind people to be prepared for sun (hats, sunglasses, etc.).

Lions will serve hot dogs, drinks and snacks.

Speaker to present history of township

MADISON COUNTY — County historian Stephen T. Jackson will present part of his “What’s In A Name Series: The History of Union Township” at 7 p.m. July 26, at Madison County Historical Society, 11 W. 11th St., Anderson.

This will be the first general membership meeting for the Madison County Historical Society since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The meeting will take place in the Bowman Room. The public is welcome to attend.

The exhibit “WW II: County Heroes and Homefront” and the new permanent Native American display will both be open for viewing from 6 to 7 p.m.

Organizers request that only those who have been vaccinated attend.

Markleville Jamboree set for early August

MARKLEVILLE — Markleville Jamboree is scheduled for Aug. 6 and 7 at Markleville Community Park.

The town has many events planned, including a Mounds Park DNR presentation, animal show, eating contest and more.

Organizers are seeking volunteer entertainment for the free stage — singers, dancers, comedians and more.

There are spots for concessions, as well as booth space for crafts, direct sales, jewelry, flea market items and rummage.

Organizers are also accepting parade entries.

Arabians Class of ’76 reunion set

PENDLETON — Pendleton Heights High School Class of 1976 reunion is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at Pendleton American Legion.

There will be a barbecue-style picnic dinner, cash bar and live music.

Cost is $30 cash at door ($55 per couple).
