SOUTH MADISON COUNTY — After suspending all town activities since Governor Eric Holcomb’s Stay-At-Home order, Markleville plans on returning to business next week.

Town council president Daniel Roseberry said the town meeting schedule will resume beginning Monday, May 11 with a 7 p.m. council meeting at Town Hall.

The meeting is open to the public and will also be available by teleconference. Roseberry said access to meetings by teleconference will be listed on the town’s website (Markleville.in.gov) 48 hours prior to the meeting.

“There’s not a lot to catch up on,” Roseberry said.

The council president said with recent amendment to the order, the meeting will be limited to 25 people at the town hall, but anyone can join in via teleconference.

Roseberry said the agenda will include updates from all the department heads.

In May, along with council meeting on Monday, a Markleville Park Board meeting is slated for 7 p.m. May 18. A second monthly town council meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. May 25.

A Markleville Plan Commission meeting also is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 1.

The Ingalls town offices remained closed to the public this week, but town council president Scot Lawyer said he is hopeful to open back up beginning May 11.

Though a decision had not been made, as of press time, Lawyer said he expected the May 11 water/storm meeting at 6:30 p.m. and town council meeting at 7 p.m. to take place, with a maximum of 25 people in attendance. There are no plans to conduct the meeting online.

He also anticipates town offices opening up next week with the same guidelines and would recommend the use of masks for both employees and customers.

“It’s going to be a slow process and there are going to be challenges,” Lawyer said, remarking that the data-driven orders and suggestions can change on a daily basis.
