PENDLETON — The Pendleton Artists Society will feature two local artists — Joyce Minnick and Patrick Kluesner — in its July Art Show, which opened July 3 and runs through Aug. 5 at Gallery 119.

There will be a reception from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 10, with hors d’oeuvres and an opportunity to meet with the artists and view the show.

The public is invited.

Joyce Mennick is a graduate of Shenandoah High School and studied art at Ball State University, Scottsdale Artist School Master Class Sculpture (juried) and Philippe Faraut, and NY juried class on intricacies of the human face.

Mennick for decades was a master engraver in the world of custom knife making with her husband, Jim, and found success in painting and bronze sculpture.

Her work has been exhibited in the New York State Museum and collected throughout the United States.

Patrick Kluesner resides and paints from his home-based studio in Anderson. A graduate of Madison Heights High School, Kluesner paints portraits of people and animals and also does paintings of still life and outdoor scenes in Madison County and surrounding areas.

Kluesner’s professional art career began as an illustrator in the advertising department for Payless Supermarket. During that time he learned sign painting and computer graphics.

He retired in 2007 so he could pursue his career as a painter. In 1993 he was honored by Indianapolis Ad Club for his mixed media advertisement for the Indian Trails Festival “Hallowed Ground,” which depicts an American Indian man above the skyline of downtown Anderson.

After a career in commercial art, painting subjects from life indoors and outdoors was a refreshing departure. He decided to challenge himself and used palette knives to paint his subjects.

Kluesner has been a member of the Art Association of Madison County for years and has served as its president.

His work can be seen in art competitions and galleries throughout Indiana; he has earned many awards for his paintings throughout his career.-

Gallery 119 is located at 119 W. State St. in Pendleton; regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
