Pendleton - At age 8, Skyler Altherr is bright, well spoken and already a veteran of competitive motocross racing.

The Pendleton Elementary third-grader is getting ready for his fifth season of competition. This year, he is riding both the 65cc and 85cc bikes, while going for a championship in the 9-11 age group.

Altherr has already made his mark in the sport. Beginning at age 4, Altherr rode in his first motocross competition. His mom, Angela, said she was not thrilled with his new endeavor.

“I was nervous. We started out with me on one end of the yard and his dad on the other end to make sure he stopped. He just took off pretty quickly,” Angela said.

In the races for young children, parents can actually be out on the track to help with accidents and to help the kids back up.
