Pendleton - Jake Roberts spent a lot of time in Pendleton playing little league baseball. During those games, he said he dreamed of one day going to the big leagues.

After years of hard work, Roberts is taking another step on the road of making that dream come true. He will now be part of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization beginning with its rookie league.

Roberts will graduate in December from St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind., but he found out in September that the Diamondbacks had purchased his contract from the Windy City Thunderbolts. The Bolts are a Chicago area minor league team with the Frontier league and not affiliated with Major League baseball. Roberts has pitched for one season with the Thunderbolts.

“I was relieved. It was nice to finally close on a contract and nice for the pieces to come together,” Roberts said.

In his collegiate career, Roberts mostly played the infield and most recently third base for St. Joseph’s, but pitching is what he enjoys and felt provided his best shot at playing professional ball.
