Lapel - A line of powerful storms swept through Madison County this afternoon, shortly after flash flood warnings were issued.
Sheriff Ron Richardson said the storms caused damage and several power outages in the Lapel area.
“Late this afternoon a storm with rain and strong winds hit Madison County near and east of Lapel,” Richardson said. “Many trees, limbs and power outages were reported by citizens and officers.”
Richardson said some structures were damaged and that several photos were submitted by county residents.
“Public safety responders also observed some damage to residences and barns,” Richardson said.
It is not known at time the number of power outages reported.
The flash flood watch issued by the National Weather Service has been canceled. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 8 p.m.
