South Madison - It might not have been a cry heard around the world, but loud cheers were definitely heard throughout the government building when the Anderson City Council voted down a proposed annexation effort from the mayor’s office.
Residents who had stayed throughout the long meeting Thursday, March 14 were seen clapping, hugging and even crying in the auditorium, which had been set up for the expected large crowd.
With a 6-3 decision, the council ultimately rejected Mayor Kevin Smith’s Anderson Fast Forward plan, a growth initiative that would have expanded the city’s geographic footprint by 21 square miles.
