Pendleton - The high heat and humidity did not hamper the Pendleton Heights High School girls cross country team as it won its second consecutive PH Roundup, while the boys finished second, on Aug. 28.

From the starting line nearly to the finish, the girls used pack running to bring home a decisive win against second-place Warren Central. Senior Maddi Hinton placed and was the top finisher for the Arabians with a time of 21:12.42. She was followed by freshman Alli McCarty, who was fifth with a time of 21:13.03, freshman Emma Hall in sixth at 21:24.68 and sophomore Monica Dudley in seventh with a time of 21:29.

“I really want to keep this going. That was our plan for the first mile to kind of control it. With all of the heat, I didn’t want them to go out and bust it super hard,” coach Melissa Hagerman said. “After that, they took off and stayed together so they could race at that point.”
