Lapel - Lapel’s boys basketball team on Saturday, Dec. 29, played the finale of what coach Jimmie Howell said was one of the most significant three-game stretches in school history.

Despite taking two reigning state champions to the wire and battling Madison County’s most storied program hard, the Bulldogs were left empty-handed.

And Howell still had 499 career coaching wins to his name and will have to wait until 2013 to reach his milestone.

The Bulldogs wrapped up the anticipated stand — and the calendar year — with a 74-66 defeat to Anderson in the first round of the County Tournament.
