Artist to speak at quilt guild meeting

Pendleton

Artist and quilt designer Ellen Murphy will be the featured speaker at the April 2 meeting of the Spring Valley Quilt Guild.

Murphy has created patterns that are easy to understand. She has created unique quilts inspired by the colors and shapes of American houses, from farmhouses to brownstones. Her new books and patterns will be available at the meeting for cash or check purchase.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. in the Community Room of the Pendleton Community Public Library at 595 E. Water St.

Show and tell is always an exciting part of meetings, and visitors are invited to attend and may join the guild at any time. Dues for 2014 are still being accepted.

Art group plans gallery show

Pendleton

The Pendleton Artists Society plans an open gallery show from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 4.

PAS will open the doors to the public to view artwork created by members on the first Friday of every month.

PAS will have a different media theme each month to keep artwork freshly rotated throughout the gallery.

The April featured theme is “metals.”

PH class collects shoes for a cause

Pendleton

A government class at Pendleton Heights High School is organizing a shoe drive to benefit Outfitters from April 7 to April 25.

The class is collecting new or lightly used shoes for all ages. Collection boxes are located in front of the main office and in Room 115 at PHHS.

Additional collection boxes can be found at Maple Ridge Elementary, Pendleton Elementary, and the Pendleton Intermediate schools.

There will also be a collection box in the lobby of First Merchant’s Bank in the Marsh Plaza.

Comfort Keepers meal April 9

Markleville

The Christian Women’s Fellowship Comfort Keepers of the East Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Markleville plans its monthly God Abundance Meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the lower fellowship hall of the church.

The menu includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, dessert and a drink.

A free will offering is accepted, and the public is welcome.

The East Christian Church is located at 124 E. Main St. (on Ind. 38), in Markleville and is handicap accessible.

Carry-outs will be available. Shut-in and small businesses in the immediate area that would like a carry out delivered should call the Church at (765) 533-4996 the day of the meal or Diane at (765) 533-2330

PAS plans wax casting class

Pendleton

The Pendleton Artists Society has scheduled a one-day Lost Wax Casting Workshop starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12.

Participants will form a new ring from old gold or silver jewelry using the lost wax casting process.

The class will be held at Dr. Lau’s office at 210 Water St., Pendleton.

There is a limit of six students. The cost of the class is $50; people must bring gold or silver jewelry to melt.
