Class collecting food for Haiti
Lori Ryan’s first-grade class at East Elementary School is collecting small- to medium-sized jars of creamy peanut butter for Real Hope for Haiti during the week ending April 26.
Donations are being collected at the school office this week.
People may also tape a quarter on top of each jar to help defray the cost of shipping.
YMCA offers hoops instruction
The Pendleton YMCA is providing basketball instruction for beginning players in grades 3-6 this spring.
The six-week session will cover footwork, ball handling, shooting and defensive skills.
Sessions are planned for 7-8 p.m. Thursdays Through May 16. Coach Andy Klepfer, with more than 20 years of coaching experience at all levels of youth basketball, will be leading the instruction.
The cost is $60 for members and $90 for nonmembers and limited to the first 10 to sign up. The fee includes a basketball for each player.

OHOP grant cycle opens
“Open Hearts, Open Purses,” a women’s group in South Madison County, will once again award $10,000 for a project designed specifically to benefit Adams, Fall Creek, Green and/or Stony Creek townships.
Funding requests to SMCF should apply to one of the following focus areas: Arts/Culture, Education, Community Development, Environment, and Human Services. The grant will be awarded at a special event June 13.

Library to offer Spanish course
The Pendleton Public Community Library is offering an adult Beginning Spanish course. The six-week course is scheduled for April 20 to May 11.
The course is open to the public.
The cost for the course is $5 per one-hour class or $25 for the entire course.

Lions offer Run & Roar run/walk
The Lapel Lions Club is sponsoring its first 5k run/walk Saturday, April 27.

Legion plans fish dinner
The Lapel American Legion will have an all-you-can-eat fish dinner from 5-7 p.m. Saturday April 27.
The price is $8.
The menu is deep fried Alaskan Pollock, french fries, coleslaw, baked beans, corn cakes, dessert, tea and coffee.
PHHS Post prom golf scramble
The Pendleton Heights High School Post Prom Golf Scramble will start at noon Saturday, April 27 at the Fall Creek Golf Club.

Markleville plans Girls night out
A Girl’s Night Out is planned for 6-9 p.m. at the Historic Hardy Building in Markleville, located on Ind. 38, on Saturday, April 27.
The event is open to the public, but only adult ladies.
There will be no charge for admission, door prizes or snacks. Soft drinks will cost $1.
Shopping is to be provided by local business women and shops from the area.
There will be a massage therapist doing chair massages and a nail tech doing nails as well as lots of shopping available.
