PES Spring Carnival Friday
The Pendleton Elementary School Spring Carnival is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Pendleton Elementary Intermediate School.
The gym, classrooms and hallways will be filled with games and activities for children and adults.
Carnival Cafeteria will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. There will be K-burgers, chips, candy, drinks, coffee, smoothies and cupcakes.
Proceeds from the event go back to the classrooms and teachers who participate in the event. The money is used to buy much needed supplies for their classrooms or new items such as books, games or learning tools for the kids.
Bracelets will cost $15 for unlimited game play. Some activities will have individual costs.
Local and home-based businesses will have products on display and available for purchase.

PH class collects shoes for a cause
A government class at Pendleton Heights High School is organizing a shoe drive through April 25.
The class is collecting new or lightly used shoes for all ages. Collection boxes are located in front of the main office and in Room 115 at PHHS.
Additional collection boxes can be found at Maple Ridge Elementary, Pendleton Elementary, and the Pendleton Intermediate schools.
There will also be a collection box in the lobby of First Merchant’s Bank in the Marsh Plaza.

Comfort Keepers meal April 9
The Christian Women’s Fellowship Comfort Keepers of the East Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Markleville plans its monthly God Abundance Meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in the lower fellowship hall of the church.
The menu includes chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, rolls, dessert and a drink.
A free will offering is accepted, and the public is welcome.
The East Christian Church is located at 124 E. Main St. (on Ind. 38), in Markleville and is handicap accessible.
Carry-outs will be available. Shut-in and small businesses in the immediate area that would like a carry out delivered should call the Church at (765) 533-4996 the day of the meal or Diane at (765) 533-2330.
Winter market to host last event of season
The last Winter Farmer’s Market in Pendleton is scheduled for Thursday, April 10.
It takes place at Smith Family Farm’s Party Barn from 4 to 7 p.m.

Six-week series focuses on grief
A program about coping with grief and loss is scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon Thursdays, starting April 10 and ending May 15, at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.
The six-week program will present practical tools and resources, and explore ideas such as hope and inner strength, helpful in navigating life’s transitions.

‘Friends’ book sale coming up
The Pendleton Friends of the Library plans a spring book sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 11, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, April 12 and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 13.
This spring sale offers a large collection of non-fiction books.
The sale takes place at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.
Legion plans fish fry Friday
The Pendleton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary plans a fish fry with French fries and coleslaw from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 11.
Dinners cost $7 (children 7 and younger cost $4).
Karaoke starts at 8 p.m. with Jason Bowman. This event is open to the public.
Also, at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 13, the Legion plans its annual Easter pitch-in. People are asked to bring a covered dish. The children’s Easter egg hunt is at 3 p.m. This event is for members and their guests only.
Scouting for Food effort set for weekend
Pendleton Boy Scout Troop 232 will join Cub Scout Pack 232 and Girl Scout Troops 457 and 1861 for this year’s Scouting for Food program Saturday, April 12.
The children will pass out grocery bags to homes in Pendleton and the surrounding areas.
Scouts will return after 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, to pick up bags containing non-perishable food items left at front doors. Filled bags also may be brought to the Pendleton Heights Middle School Lobby from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All donations will be taken to Madison County food pantries for distribution.
PAS plans wax casting class
The Pendleton Artists Society has scheduled a one-day Lost Wax Casting Workshop starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12.
Participants will form a new ring from old gold or silver jewelry using the lost wax casting process.
The class will be held at Dr. Lau’s office at 210 Water St., Pendleton.
There is a limit of six students. The cost of the class is $50; people must bring gold or silver jewelry to melt.
Sorority plans egg hunt
Psi Phi Chapter of Kappa Delta Phi Sorority will be hosting its annual Easter Egg Hunt at noon Saturday, April 12, at the Markleville Community Park.
The park is located on Ind. 38 just west of Markleville.
There will be three age groups up to age 10. There will be drawings for Easter baskets full of goodies.
PAS offers oil painting workshop
The Pendleton Artists’ Society will start a seven-week Oil Painting 102 workshop from 10 a.m. to noon beginning Sunday, April 13.
The focus of the class will be on painting animals, architecture, portraits, and possibly still life and the wipeout technique.
Students must bring oil painting supplies, 11x14-inch canvas and easel. The cost is $120, and the teacher will be John Reynolds.

Blood drive scheduled at church
Fall Creek Christian Church plans to play host to an American Red Cross blood drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 14.
Donors should go to the lobby of the Fall Creek Christian Church Family Center, located at 1102 W. CR 700S, Pendleton.
Red Hat Chicks to lunch
The Pendleton Red Hat Chicks will meet at noon Wednesday, April 16, at Hacienda Vieja in the Marsh Plaza, Pendleton. Members are asked to call Barbar Mercer at (765) 778-3868 to confirm reservations.
