School delay notices online
Pendleton Elementary School parents may receive text messages or email alerts when South Madison Community School Corp. has a delay, closes school, or even emergency early dismissals. To obtain such notifications, go to: www.wishtv.com , click on “Closings & Delays” or “Sign-up for School Watch 8 Alerts” and follow the prompts. Remember to choose South Madison as the school.
Commemorative calendars now available
The Friends of the Library are now selling commemorative calendars, featuring several historical photos around the community.
Calendars cost $10 and are available at the Pendleton Library.
All proceeds go towards the Friends of Pendleton Library, which helps bring programs such as the Arabian Readers, grandmother’s tea, Doughnuts with Daddy and many others to the library.

EES readies for mobile dentist
East Elementary School sent home permission forms with students for the annual Mobile Dentist visit Jan. 10.
The Mobile Dentist visits the school each year and provides cleanings, X-rays, and now fillings and more without the inconvenience of time off work or school.
Winter Farmers Market scheduled
The Pendleton Winter Farmer’s Market is scheduled from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10
The Winter Farmers Market takes place at Smith Family Farms in Pendleton.
Several vendors will be there with many items from which to choose.
The barn is warm, and drinks will be available.

Talk to explore Apollo 1 fire
The Pendleton Community Public Library plans to host a special event “The Tragedy at Pad 34: Gus Grissom and the Apollo 1 fire,” at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12.
Ray Boomhower, senior editor of the Indiana Historical Society, will present a program about the tragedy that took the lives of three astronauts, including Indiana’s own Gus Grissom.
The program will be presented at the Pendleton Community Public Library and is free and open to the public.

St John’s EMT class starts soon
Registrations are being accepted for St. John’s next EMT certification class, which will begin Jan. 14.
The class will meet two evenings each week from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the St. John’s Education Center, 1912 Jackson St.
The schedule includes a few Saturday classes. For more information and an application, contact Bev Hilburt at 646-8529.
The $800 fee includes CPR training, the textbook and other class materials. Following successful completion of the course, program graduates are eligible for the State of Indiana Certification Examination and the National EMT Registry Examination. Application for the state certification is dependent upon passing this examination. This course is required to be a paramedic.
To be considered for the program, applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED All students must read, write and speak English fluently. Documentation of a negative TB test required within past 3 months. Class size is limited.
Senior Café offers food, games
LifeStream services and the Pendleton Community Public Library conduct the Pendleton Senior Café at noon Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Pendleton Community Public Library, 595 E. Water St., Pendleton.
Seniors 60 and older are welcomed to eat a hot, healthy meal for a suggested donation of $3.50.
After each meal, seniors may enjoy a rousing game of Bingo.
RSVP for each meal is required at least 24 hours in advance.

‘Chicks’ to visit Knightstown gym
The Pendleton Red Hat Chicks will meet at 11 a.m. Jan. 16 at the home of Barbara Mercer before traveling to Knightstown to visit the Historical Hoosier Gym. The group will then lunch at the Gas Grill on Ind. 109.

Friends of the Library Book Sale coming up
The Friends of the Library book sale will take place Friday, Jan. 11 to Thursday, Jan. 17.
The sale is open during regular operating hours for the library which are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Sale items include adult and children’s books, magazines, reference works, movies and music.
