Pendleton - For Pendleton Heights, 1988 was the last time the girls cross country team went to the state finals. On Nov. 2, the Arabians will return to the state meet after finishing third in the New Haven semi-state Oct. 26.

Not only did the Arabians finish third with 141 points behind Carroll and Penn high schools, but Alex Buck finished second overall with a personal best time of 18:18.4. She finished eight seconds behind winner Madison Woods of Penn. The Arabians have been to the semi-state the past three years, but at one of the most difficult meets in the state, they fell short each year, until Saturday.

Freshman Alli McCarty also earned a personal best time of 19:26.4 and finished in 22nd place, followed by Emma Hall in 42nd with a time of 20:03 and Monica Dudley who was 61st with a time of 20:26. Maddi Hinton was 65th and Faith Baer was 87th. Chelsea Blackwell was 98th.

Even at the sectional, seniors Hinton and Blackwell had the state meet on their mind. Working for the past three years they finally achieved the goal in their last year of competition.

Getting to state was not just a goal for the seniors, but for the whole team as well.
