Pendleton - Earlier in the year, Pendleton Heights girls tennis lost a close match with Alexandria 3-2. The teams met again in the sectional finals at Highland Junior High May 18. This time, the Arabians walked away the 3-2 winner with their first sectional title.

“It was a sweet win,” coach Royce Hammel said.

Not an easy one, either, as the match originally began Friday evening, but strong storms suspended play until Saturday. At the time of the suspension, the Arabians were down, but made a strong comeback.

“We had already won a set (6-0) in No. 2 singles and were behind in all the other matches, but prior to the rain, we were starting to get back in the matches,” Hammel said.
