Emma Jackley, 9, recently helped donate 194 pounds of food and other items to the Lapel Community Food Pantry. Photo provided / Times-Post

Lapel - A little girl celebrating her ninth birthday decided to forgo the traditional gifts wrapped in bright bows and ask guests to bring donations for a local charity instead. Lapel parents Nicole and Tony Jackley said that each year on their daughters’ birthdays they try and have the girls pick someone to help, but this year their oldest daughter Emma came up with the idea herself.

“The girls have so much already,” Nicole Jackley said. “Our family is so huge that they always get so much for their birthday. So instead of getting gifts from their friends, we always try and help someone out to help remember how lucky we are as a family.”
