PENDLETON – The Friends of the Library hope to cause quite a splash with its new fundraiser, one that will help bring even more ducks to Falls Park.

Friends of the Library Vice President and Publicity Chairwoman Jane Brumitt said the group was looking for a new idea — and was excited with the one that rose to the top.

“We were looking for a new fundraising idea and I thought it was a very clever way to involve the whole community,” Brumitt said. “Our president, Sue Glassmoyer, came up with the idea.”

The group’s big plan involved releasing more than 200 ducklings – rubber ones – into the current at Falls Park.

“It’s a Lucky Duck Race,” Brumitt said. “And it’s really taken off.”

The group has been approaching residents for months through the library and at several community events such as the June Jamboree, taking $5 donations in exchange for souvenir rubber ducks.
