Lapel Community Band plans Songs ’n’ Sweets

Lapel - Lapel’s Community Band will start its 2014 concert season with its sixth annual benefit concert for the Lapel Community Food Pantry at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 23, at the Trinity Life Center, located at the intersection of Ind. 13 and Ind. 38 near Pendleton.

 Songs ’n’ Sweets is a dessert concert. All desserts are being prepared by Amy Hans, owner of A Slice of Heaven Cakery in Lapel.

The program features guest vocalists Mike Nicholson of Lapel performing “You Raise Me Up” and Greg and Gay Scott of Lapel performing “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

The program includes a salute to Frank Sinatra and the music of Marvin Hamlisch.

Tickets cost $5 for the dessert concert and are available from band members and at the door at the time of the concert. Price of admission includes the concert and desserts following the program.

Non-perishable food items are also welcome. Suggested food items include peanut butter, canned meats and fish or beans; cereal, pasta or rice is also needed.
