Lapel - Lapel councilmen said the trail of a 1.036 million gallon water loss led them to a vacant house.
Now they have to find out who owes the bill.
Town council president Gary Shuck told the council about the loss during the Feb. 7 meeting.
When the loss was reported, Shuck said utility superintendent Marlin Johnson set out to find the source of the leak. It was discovered at a vacant rental property on Main Street. It was not clearly visible because the water had been turned off in the house and there was no water standing in the yard or around the house. The water pipes had frozen inside and the water spilled into the basement.
