Lapel - Lapel’s wrestling team began its season Saturday, Nov. 17, at less than full strength.

Six wrestlers who are expected to contribute this season did not compete in the Daleville Super Duals meet because they participated in football and have not had the 10 wrestling practices required by the IHSAA before they can take part in meets.

That may have been contributed to the Bulldogs winning just one of five dual-meet matches at Daleville, and that came against the home team.

Junior Casey Upperman started his year very strong, winning all five of his matches at 113 pounds.

Three Bulldogs picked up three wins. They were senior Brandyn Jones at 152, freshman Landon Alberts at 120 and freshman Pierce Pickett at 132.

“We showed some good signs,” Lapel coach Jeff Commeville said. “Once we get a full lineup, I think we’ll do very well this year and we’ll represent Lapel very well.”
