HAMILTON COUNTY — A Lapel man was shot Tuesday after firing a .44 magnum handgun at police.

At 10:08 p.m., an officer from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office was checking on a suspicious vehicle parked in Lafayette Trace Park located at 15796 Strawtown Avenue in Noblesville.

As the officer initiated his spot light and emergency lights, a man exited the vehicle armed with a handgun. The suspect was ordered to stop but ran into the wooded area of the park. Officers set up a perimeter and began searching for the man.
