Pendleton - Open Hearts, Open Purses — a philanthropic event established in Pendleton by the South Madison Community Foundation — will conduct its fifth annual dinner event next week.

The event, which attracts more than 100 local women who donate $100 each, will award one of three finalists a grant worth thousands of dollars.

“The major OHOP grant is $10,000,” Donor and Community Development Officer Tammy Bowman said. “We ask at least 100 women to give $100 each, and the entire $100 is awarded to the community in the form of grants.”

Bowman said the OHOP event is scheduled for 6 p.m. June 12 at Blu Falls Arts and Event Center in Pendleton. The dinner is included in the $100 OHOP membership.

“All members listen to a 10-minute presentation from the finalists and then vote at their tables,” Bowman said. “Those votes are counted on the spot, and the winner is announced that night.”
