Pendleton - Early May found me attending the 45th annual meeting of the Hoosier Outdoor Writers organization. As always, Susie, my wife, was with me. The function took place at Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park near Indianapolis. This gathering is attended by the best outdoor writers, photographers, broadcasters, web designers and other outdoor media professionals in the Hoosier state.
This annual meeting allows members of our group to greet old friends (and meet new ones), keep up on what’s new in the outdoor world, network with tourism and manufacturing contacts, pick up new story material, eat great food, and hopefully, win some outstanding prizes on the HOW raffle.
For those inclined to show off their skills, the first day of the conference is the Fun Shoot. This event is so popular with some of the writers, they faithfully attended the shoot even when our annual conferences were in February. I guess if they missed a shot, they could always blame it on numb fingers. I have never actually attended this shoot because I never like public displays of my ineptness. Some of the participants are so good they use a .410 instead of a 12 gauge to give the others a chance. On Friday night there was a special barbecue dinner for the attendees put on by the Visit Tourism Indy folks.
