Pendleton - Last season, when the Arabians first played the number one ranked Hamilton Southeastern Royals, it went in the Royals’ direction in a big way. Friday’s game in the Arabian gym still went to the sixth-ranked Royals, but this time, it was a nail-biter loss 56-55.
The Arabians led the game with just about 30 seconds remaining, when Royal Zak Irvin cut the lead to one. A missed Arabian 1-and-1 gave the ball back to the Royals who sank the buzzer-beating shot.
Through the first half, Irvin, who is HSE’s Mr. Basketball candidate, could muster just two points, but possibly fueled by chants from the Arabian school section, Irvin turned it around in the second half, finishing as the game’s leading scorer with 22 points, 14 of those in the third quarter.
