Indianapolis - Pendleton Heights cheerleaders returned to the Indiana State Fair Cheerleading competition Aug. 10 as the defending champions. When the evening was over, the varsity retained the title as Small Varsity Champions, while the junior varsity placed third.
While the JV breezed through the morning preliminaries, the varsity faltered, failing to complete one of the stunts in the routine. Only eight squads of the 15 entered were eligible to advance. However, with their high degree of difficulty throughout the routine, the Arabians did make to the finals on Saturday evening.
After learning the varsity would compete in the finals, coach Brenda Jamerson talked with the squad about the earlier performance.
“We hit that stunt over and over in practice,” she said. “I’ve taken them all over Pendleton to have strangers watch them, and we hit it every time.”
