Pendleton - Even without any former state qualifiers in the line up, coach Dave Cloud said he feels his Arabian wrestling squad overall will be a better team this year than last.

With 14 returning lettermen and 47 boys out for the team, there should be no problem filling the 14 weight classes.

“I think we will be at a higher level of overall quality from top to bottom,” Cloud said. “I don’t know if we will have a state place-winner, but we will be a tough dual meet team.”

Regional qualifiers from last year senior Austin Ray and sophomore Spencer McCool return along with seniors Dalton Cochran, Eric Featherstone, Brett Lowe and Skyler Prol.

Cloud also has large group of sophomores and junior who wrestled last year as well as some who are wrestling for the first time.

“They are working hard, and I told them they have joined the fraternity. You’re a wrestler for the rest of your life. I don’t care if you never step on the mat as a varsity guy, you are part of Arabian wrestling. That kind of thing excites me.”
