PHMS seventh-grade girls win county

Pendleton - The seventh-grade PHMS Lady Arabians are the Madison County Champions, downing the Highland Scots 36-23 in the championship game Saturday, Feb. 22.

Seventh-grade advanced to the Madison County Girls Basketball Tournament by defeating the Elwood Panthers 48-12.

Leading the seventh-graders to a victory against Highland were: Claire Fendel with 10 points; Niyah Loomis, eight; Jayden Brown, seven; McKae Hutchison, five; Madison Harmon, four; and Madison White, two.

Versus Elwood, Fendel again led with nine points. Others scoring were: Brown and Katie Shadoan, six each; Emily Likens, five; and Kaylin Graham, Eli Perkins and Karlie Whittkamper, four apiece.

The 13-2 Lady Arabians will host Hamilton Southeastern at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 (after presss time).

The eighth-graders advanced to the championship game by defeating Elwood Panthers 56-38. In the championship game, the team fell short to the Lady Eagles 56-47.

Leading the eighth-graders against Frankton were: Lauren Landes with 28 points. Also contributing were Michelle Merryman, eight; Brinkley Gary, seven; and Savannah Hawhee and Jessica MacMillan with two each.

In the semifinal against Elwood, scoring were Landes, 19 points; Natalie Taylor, 10; Merryman, nine; Kelsey Sturgeon, five; Abby Davis and MacMillan, four each; Gary, three; and Emma Young, two.

The seventh- and eighth-grade Lady Arabians advanced to the semi round of county  by defeating the Madison Grant Argylls. Eighth-grade won 18-13, and seventh-grade won 39-10 .

Scoring for eighth- grade were: Landes, 10 points; Gary, four; MacMillan, two; and Merryman, two.

Scoring for seventh-grade were: Fendel, seven points; Brown,  Leonie Wilson and Wittkamper each had six; Harmon and Loomis, four each; and Brianna Bell, Graham and Madison White, two apiece.
