Fortville - Kiawna Cottrell literally “kicked it in” in the final seconds of the 4x400 relay Tuesday, May 8, to insure the Pendleton Heights girls track and field team came home with the Hoosier Heritage Conference title.
Cottrell made up time and several places as the Arabians finished second to New Palestine in the race, but the finish gave Pendleton 140.5 points to Mt. Vernon’s 131.5.
“I tried to stay with it and kick it in at the end,” Cottrell said.
Coach Ron Hinton was proud and amazed by the effort and leadership by his team.
“I knew it was going to be close. Mt. Vernon was extremely strong.”
