Pendleton - Pendleton’s first roundabout project isn’t just running well, it’s ahead of schedule.

Robert Wertman, senior transportation planner with the Madison County Council of Governments, said the projected opening date is a month before originally planned.

“The roundabout was originally going to open in early September,” Wertman said. “But it’s so ahead of schedule we’re projecting that it will open on August 2.”

The roundabout is being constructed on Ind. 38, between Pendleton Heights High School and Pendleton Heights Middle School.

The senior planner said the highway should be open before South Madison Community School Corp. opens its doors for the new school year.

“The first say of classes is Aug. 7,” Wertman said. “So the road should be open by the time school starts.”
